It has been a long time since my last music analysis assignment in year 1. This year, in year 3, I’ve decided to take up the course Analysis of 20th Century Music. I hope to continue to learn as much as possible, and to find out for myself first-hand the value of analysis in music. My teacher has such strong convictions in its value, such enthusiasm and conviction, that I too want to be just as convinced. I want to know what it means to appreciate the beauty of music with careful listening and analysis for myself. It is my greatest hope that such close scrutiny of the music will not kill the joy of music, but to enhance it. I hope the hard work pays off and I will find some meaning in what I’m doing.

These are my expectations before I embark on this project. We’ll see how it goes along the way.
