This passage of music reminds us of the music mentioned in my previous post. However, now it occurs in a different time signature. The phrasing of the melody is also different. In Ex. 3-1, the notes were grouped in couplets, but not in the above example. Moreover, the second part of the phrase highlighted in red keeps changing ever so slightly at subsequent occurances. Despite the subtle changes, one still hears distinctly the presence of the semitone ideaSubsequent bars also make use of this phrase of music. At the same time, the opening ostinato rhythm in the bass is heard in the background. Like its previous statement, parallel movement of triads can also be heard.
This section sounds very mysterious. The effect is created by the swelling phrases and chromatic movement.
