This week marks the end of my undergraduate academic studies. From now on, I'll be out in the playing field, doing what these years of training is supposed to prepare me for. As I think about those times spent journeying to the west each day, I can't help but stop and remind myself of the lessons learnt.
Cleaning out my musical ears
Through these years, I'm thankful for the opportunities I've been put through, listening to the painful sounds of music. I used to wonder why composers had to resort to such wierd sounding atonal music when so much can be done with tonal melodies and harmonies. I've come to a better appreciation of the development of compositional techniques and of the music themeselves by studying the social and historical contexts.
Bringing out my self confidence
Opportunities to perform, both individually and as a group, in many different styles and genres has been the most rewarding experience for me. Through these, I'm happy to say that salf confidence was definitely something that was brought out of me.
Writing out my music
I've had great pains and fun writing music. Though amateur, these compositions are something I am proud to have achieved. The interactions that came about as a result of these compositions are also something I'll value very much.
So it's time to move off from here, and start living out my role as a teacher.
